What it's Like Working as a Moving Helper with Caddy | Caddy Moving

Whether you stumbled upon us on Google, heard about us from a friend, or found us through search on Indeed, you’re probably wondering what makes us different from any other moving company.

Many things!

To start, Caddy Moving is a technology company that connects clients with labor-providing contractors. Similar to Uber, we do not own any products or assets that have direct influence on the services we provide. The services we offer stem from independent contractors who select their shifts and hours, so we don’t tell you when to come to work.

Secondly, we are a labor-providing service only, not a full-service moving company. This means that we do not own any trucks or moving supplies, so your only focus by working with us will be on the labor tasks at hand. This includes loading and unloading, packing, rearranging, or any other labor-required task asked by the customer.

Thirdly, we reward you for providing amazing customer service. The more 5-star reviews you receive, the more we pay you. Seriously. Every time you complete a job, the customer is sent a review form that gives us immediate feedback on how you did. Because we leave the Moving Helper role as a very independent position, we understand that quality of service can vary. This is why we provide the incentive of immediate and consistent increased pay every time you do a great job. There is also no limit to the number of increases in pay you can receive here at Caddy!

So, what you might have gathered thus far is this: by working as a moving helper with Caddy, you choose when you want to work, how much you want to work, you will only have to bring your two hands and two legs, and you can make as much as you want so long as you do a great job. Sounds pretty awesome, right? Read on to learn more about what it’s like to work at an on-demand moving company like Caddy!

Get Onboarded to our Apps

After your hiring and interview process, you’ll need to get onboarded into our apps. I know we said that plural, but don’t worry, we like to keep things simple: one an app for selecting your shifts and recording your hours, and another app for weekly payroll (which doesn’t require any additional tasks from you).

The app that we use for shift selection is called When I Work, and this will essentially be your home base for getting work through Caddy. The When I Work app acts as a calendar, message board, shift scheduler, and more. You can talk with your teammates, contact your manager, pick up shifts with a tap of your finger, and so much more. We provide you with helpful how-to videos and tutorials during your onboarding so you can familiarize yourself with all the features that When I Work has to offer. Once you’re fully set up in When I Work, you can start picking up shifts right away!

Select your shifts, set your availability, and build your schedule

Caddy does not require you to work a single shift with us, if you so please. You can work as much or as little as you’d like, and for this reason you will have direct control over how many shifts you pick up each work week. That said, we do give you the option to receive more shifts and get assigned shifts if you’re someone looking for many hours or even a full-time job with Caddy. If this is you, we recommend that you set your availability each day that you would like to get assigned shifts.

When you set your availability, the shift-scheduling software will automatically assign you shifts based on the recommendations you provided it. For example, if you selected availability from 2 - 5 PM, and a 2 hour job came in for 3 PM, you’ll be automatically assigned that shift.

As you can imagine, if you don’t set your availability, you will have to manually select all your shifts under the ‘Open Shifts’ tab. This is great if you’re someone who is just looking to work ‘here and there’ with Caddy, but you will receive less shifts as a result and have to manually look for shifts that fit your schedule.

If at any point you are assigned a shift and can no longer work, you’re able to drop the shift or swap shifts with fellow users of Caddy. The one rule we have about swaps and drops is that they must be done 24 hours prior to the start of the shift. If you don’t complete your swaps or drops before the 24 hour mark, you will be locked in and required to report to the shift.

Receive Unlimited Pay Potential

We are proud to say we are the only company in the on-demand moving industry offering the perks we do for our contractors. After you complete your shifts, you are reviewed each and every time by the customer. Since moving is such a review-heavy industry, we take these reviews extremely seriously. And because we want you to provide great customer service on every shift, we reward you for receiving 5-star reviews by bumping up your hourly wage.

As of November 5th, 2021: we are increasing our contractors’ hourly wages by $0.10 every time they receive a 5-star review. Most of our contractors can expect a $2 - $3 increase in hourly wage each month if they provide top-notch service every time.

Keep in mind that we also take poor customer service just as seriously. No matter your seniority with us, if you receive a 1 or 2-star review for whatever reason, a manager will review the shift notes and schedule a meeting with you to discuss what went wrong. This is not to scare you, but this is how we maintain our quality of service in a position that is very independent.
